Another process that is in our midst without the due diligence of medical findings is the new New York State law that is now in effect requiring defibrillator machines in every NY dental office. I wrote to the New York State Dental Journal my opinion of this legislation and it was published in the November 2011 issue. All the NY State Dental Journal issues are available online in their archives.
We are only (1) of 70 offices worldwide making use of the perioscope. The machine requires a great deal of training, office commitment and patient education to the non-surgical management of periodontal disease. We were privileged to spend a day with Suzanne Newkirk, R.D.H., updating and improving skills with perioscopy. This will enable us to more effectively treat periodontal disease non-surgically and when surgery is necessary, make it easier for the patient. Not only can it facilitate effectiveness but can also shorten the number of periodontal visits over time. The patient is orally sedated during the 1-2 hour perioscopy procedure.
