Recently, a technological advance using a high-quality camera and endoscope, similar to what is used in medicine to examine the small and large intestines, has been retrofitted for our dental endoscopes. We just received one of the newest of these endoscopes that was released this past January.
Our early returns have been more than gratifying. We can now clearly visualize what we struggled with in the past allowing a much more effective removal of bacteria and tartar.
While endoscopic scaling does not replace periodontal surgery since it doesn’t allow the regrowth of bone or the creation of gum tissue, it does allow us to nonsurgically treat periodontal pockets that have reoccurred in our existing patients since we can access the tartar. In addition, there are many patients for whom the effective use of an endoscope can significantly reduce the amount of surgical exposure in a more painless and effective manner.
We may be the only office on the East Coast of the U.S. that currently employs the next generation of endoscopic devices.
We welcome your inquiries and as always, we are constantly trying to evolve in order to improve the quality of care for our patients.
